The Man

Matt started his vegan journey.... As a vegetable.

Back in 1988 he was born to Butternut Squash parents, but due to finances could only attend a beetroot school. This shock to the system meant he had to adapt, and fast. After consulting a plastic surgeon, he finally transitioned into a humanoid, with an abnormally large head, but with an instant craving for nothing but beetroots - a reaction, says his therapist, that may have stemmed from school beetroot bullying.

The Mission

The Veg Heads mission is simple. To introduce the wonders, colours, textures and tastes of plant-based food to anyone who’s hungry or curious, whilst also representing veganism in the most effective way possible!

The Journey

It all started in Mexico

Inspired by the flavours and colours of the country, Matt realised he’d only scratched the surface when it came to plant-based food - and also, that he could actually cook! This led to his first ever batch of black bean burgers, combined with chilli, tomato and avocado - true Mexican style (El Beano vibes, anyone?).

It was a lot of trial and error but after becoming an expert in burger dressings, Matt came up with a preliminary burger menu for a start-up with no name!

So why Veg Heads? Quite simply, Matt acquired the nickname “Meat Head” in school. Veg Heads was the perfectly ironic response to this 12 years on!

Veg Heads officially opened for trade in November 2018 - a tough time to start a business due to low temperatures and being Christmas time! But now, the business continues to rapidly expand with a fast-food menu to impress vegans and non-vegans alike, a calendar packed with events all over the south east of England (including private events) and a café residency four days a week!
